Cambridge Mass police say they responded to a two-story home near campus after Lucia Whalen, the circulation and fundraising manager at Harvard Magazine, reported seeing “two black males with backpacks on the porch,” with one “wedging his shoulder into the door as if he was trying to force entry.”

Harvard Black Scholar professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. forced his way through the front door of his home because it was jammed, his lawyer said Monday…
With the right, rational cops, this entire sad event could of been avoided. It wasn’t…

By the time cops got there, he was inside. The police asked him to come out because a “break-in” was reported. Gates shouted, “Why, because I’m a black man in America?”. Probably not the “best” response, but as an intelligent man, the cops “fingered” him as the black break-in suspect. The Cambridge police refused to comment on the arrest Monday. One officer was let inside.
Gates turned over his driver’s license and Harvard ID—both with his photos—and repeatedly asked for the name and badge number of the officer, who refused. He followed the officer onto his front porch, where he was handcuffed…

He was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge. Police said he “exhibited loud & tumultuous behavior”. Really? Couldn’t you arrest everyone at a Bears game then?
Look cops, it’s the toughest job on the planet. One day it’s fine, the next day, exact same situation, the guy has a gun, and bam, you’re dead. That’s why it takes the right temperament to be a cop. Serve and protect means everybody farthats…
